Accent Pontiac began its ninth year in September 2024 with programming at Walt Whitman Elementary School, Alcott Elementary School, Herrington Elementary, International Language Academy (ILA), International Technology Academy (ITA), Pontiac Middle School, and Pontiac High School in Pontiac, Michigan.

This year, we serve approximately 400 students with regular programming. In addition to access to instruments and four days a week of intensive music education, Accent Pontiac hosts field trips, assemblies, guest artist performances, and a summer program, and reaches over 1,000 students with exposure to new musical experiences.

After-School Music Programming

We serve 75 students from Pontiac Middle School, Pontiac High School, Walt Whitman Elementary School, Alcott Elementary School, Herrington Elementary School, International Language Academy (ILA), International Technology Academy (ITA), and more.

During-School Music Programming:

  •  Walt Whitman Elementary  

    • 1 Bucket Band/General Music Class per week

    • Serves all 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students   

  • Alcott Elementary

    • 1 Bucket Band/General Music Class per week

    • Serves all 4th and 5th grade students

    • Monday - Thursday, 3:15pm - 6:00pm

    • September - June

    • Hosted at Pontiac Middle School

    • Sectionals and Ensemble classes on brass, woodwind and percussion instruments

    • Chamber Music

    • Composition

    • Music+ (music and culture/history, music theory)

    • Music Production

    • Private lessons

    • Homework help

    • A full meal and snack

    • Transportation
