Soft Launch

Accent Pontiac's soft launch phase occurred between September 1, 2016 and January 10, 2017. This phase was a time for Accent Pontiac staff to learn about Walt Whitman Elementary School and the Pontiac community in order to structure a program that would be embraced by the students and community. During this time, Accent Pontiac provided a number of musical exposure events for Whitman students to create excitement for the upcoming pilot program. These events included bringing in guest artists to perform on the first day of school, Count Day, Whitman’s Winter Festival, and taking students to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. In addition, Accent Pontiac gave students the opportunity to make their own music at Whitman’s open house and during a week-long, intensive Bucket Band workshop.
